Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

The Holy Trinity Church community concluded its Holy Week services with the celebration of Holy Pascha on Saturday evening, April 23, 2022, when 63 parish members, friends of Holy Trinity, and visitors were in attendance. It was a beautiful sight to behold as the procession after Nocturn and prior to Resurrection Matins took place around the inside of the nave, with each person holding a tapered candle while  singing, "Thy Resurrection of Christ, Our Savior, the angels in heaven sing. Enable us on earth, to glorify Thee in purity of heart."

A festive Agape Meal took place after the conclusion of the Pascha Divine Liturgy, and most stayed for several hours to enjoy the Christian fellowship with the joy and radiance that only Holy Pascha can bring. Of special note this year was the continuing growth of the Saint Olympia of Constantinople Handmaiden Ministry where six girls, ages 4-12, join the male altar servers, wear a white cape, called a morphorion, and participate in all three entrances. Continued thanks to Mrs. Barbara Lacey who designed, created and donated all of the Handmaiden morphorions.  All those who serve regularly take their service to the church seriously; they serve with a joy that is contagious and positively impacts the entire community.

Of special note this year was the celebration on the morning of Holy Saturday where three of our church's children, Alex, Anna, and Sophia, each read one of the 15 Old Testament Readings from the Hebrew Bible for the first time, in addition to tending to their regular duties as altar servers.

A special thanks to Mr.Timothy Fetzko, Holy Trinity's webmaster and resident professional photographer, Mrs. Juliana Veek who masterfully directed the Divine Services this year, and to Dr. Chester Andrezejewski who kept things in good working order by serving and instructing our young altar servers.
