Saint Mary of Magdala

Saint Mary of Magdela is far more than just one of the Myrrhbearing Women the church remembers on the Third Sunday of Pascha; her life is of such great magnitude that it is referred to as the Primacy of Mary. That Mary of Magdala is venerated in the Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, several Protestant churches, and even in the Baha’i Faith tradition, speaks of her prominence.

The Saint Olympia Handmaiden Ministry Program was instituted today (April 10, 2016) at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church. This new ministry will provide liturgical opportunities for girls and teens ages 6-16. The young ladies will make all three entrances with our male servers. They will gather outside the South Deacon's Doors and will have the opportunity to participate in each procession.
Ms Anna Rose Fetzko, age 6 1/2, was the first female to serve in the Saint Olympia Ministry where she was able to join her twin brother, Alex, Andrew Dolan and Nicholas Vincent, in serving at today's Divine Liturgy. Anna, along with other female servers, will be provided the same opportunity to serve as males do, with the limitation of not being able to enter the altar.  Today, as she has done often in the past as well, Anna Rose passed the Collection Basket during Divine Liturgy.
Holy Trinity has received the Archpastoral Blessing of His Eminence, Archbishop Nikon, on the Saint Olympia Ministry.
A special thanks to Barbara Lacey who skillfully made Anna's beautiful maphorion, and has promised to make them for our teen girls, too.
