Saint Mary of Magdala

Saint Mary of Magdela is far more than just one of the Myrrhbearing Women the church remembers on the Third Sunday of Pascha; her life is of such great magnitude that it is referred to as the Primacy of Mary. That Mary of Magdala is venerated in the Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, several Protestant churches, and even in the Baha’i Faith tradition, speaks of her prominence.

The Holy Trinity Church community held its annual Welcome Back College Student Sunday today, September 20, 2015. In what has become an annual tradition, many college students, including outstanding representation from the University of Connecticut Orthodox Christian Fellowship, were in church this morning for Divine Liturgy and a Pot Luck luncheon offered in their honor.

Holy Trinity parishioners donated food, snacks, gift cards, and school items which were put in gift bags and distributed to the college students by the younger children from our church (Evan Zadrozny, twins Anna & Alex Fetzko). This year, WBCSS coordinators, Kathy Andrzejewski and her daughter, Danielle 'Dani' Lesperance made a sign welcoming the students back to Holy Trinity, along with making two cakes. Thank you Kathy and Dani.

"The UConn OCF, along with all our college students, is a wonderful witness to campus ministry," host pastor, V. Rev. Marc Vranes said. "Although faces change from year to year, the commitment the UConn has maintained at Holy Trinity has been a wonderful blessing to our church. The youth and younger children from Holy Trinity had wonderful examples to emulate. Our parish is much, much richer because of their dedication and passion."

Holy Trinity also made a donation of $200 to the UConn OCF to help with their ministry on the Storrs Campus. November, 2015, has also been designated UConn OCF Month at HTOC.

Students participating today included:

Senior:
Sarah Luft

Juniors:
Melanie Sulich
John Lardas
Peter Hopko
Adrienne Demback

Freshmen:
Sarah Jacobson

Also in attendance were two students from Holy Trinity who also attend UConn: Senior Nik Hutnik and sophomore Patrick Dolan.

Absent were two additional college students who are normally with us each Sunday: UConn sophomore Timothy Paproski and Nicole Scinto, a junior from Eastern Connecticut State University.
