Five members of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church worked at the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic, on Saturday, August 2, 2014. This marks the second time Holy Trinity has worked at the local charity. Members were struck by the gracious spirit and genuine gratitude of those who are less fortunate. "Just about everyone passing through offers a 'please,' 'thank you,' or 'bless you'...it's a very humbling experience and gets your mind off your own worries and troubles," said one of today's volunteers.
The Holy Trinity team worked like a well-oiled machine as they served 91 meals in an hour. Saturday's menu included roasted pork loin, roast turkey or hot dogs & beans, stuffing, rice, vegetables, fruit salad, green salad and dessert. Guests told the volunteers that "Covenant serves the best food around." Soup Kitchen Director Pam Doyle was so impressed that before leaving she jokingly told the group to "be back at 9:00AM, Tuesday."
Holy Trinity will be working at the Covenant Soup Kitchen again in November 2014. If anyone would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities, please speak to Daria Biancardi.
