Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

On Sunday, October 20, our parish community will be hosting His Eminence, Archbishop NIKON for his annual Archpastoral visit. Due the recent health concerns, it is actually his first visit with us since September, 2008, when our new iconostas was blessed.

Of particular importance this day is the blessing of our new church sign which has been designed and crafted by our own Patrick Dolan. Patrick, 17, is a senior at Coventry High School, and the construction of the church sign serves as the completion of his requirements for his Eagle Scout Award.

Patrick's effort to our community goes well beyond the church sign, as he has taken on an active role in our community for many years. On a personal note, I truly feel this will be one of the more significant moments of my priesthood. I feel very strongly about what Patrick has given to us over many years, and the church sign will certainly serve as testimony for his love for us. I am overjoyed to be a part of Patrick's special day.

Patrick's sign will serve as a wonderful beacon of hope and a call to worship for many decades on the corner of Valley Street and Mansfield Avenue in Willimantic, Connecticut.

His Eminence will also be meeting with Holy Trinity’s teen group to answer questions many teens struggle with in today’s rapidly changing American culture.

A festive Ham & Roast Beef Dinner will follow the blessing of the church sign and be served downstairs.
