Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

Sisters Madegan and Maya Morrison were received into the Orthodox Church today, Sunday, December 9, through the Sacraments of Holy Baptism & Chrismation during a Baptismal Divine Liturgy.

The girls, along with their mom, Bonnie, have been attending Holy Trinity since September, 2011. All three immediately immersed themselves into Orthodoxy since their arrival. They do not just passively participate, but they are actively involved. Both girls sing in the choir, attend Church School, help with Coffee Hour, and are engaged with our young children as well. They simply do not wait to be asked to get involved, instead they identify ways they perceive they can assist and volunteer themselves. Madegan, for instance, organized a lending library for our church during the summer, and she is presently constructing a bookcase for the library in her mechanical arts class.

Madegan and Maya have brought so much Christian joy to our community in the past 16 months. These two young ladies have had a profound impact on everyone at Holy Trinity. Madegan, 14, and Maya, 10, become the first Orthodox Christians in their family. This is quite significant. This made this choice entirely on their own, and it was important to each they receive Baptism at the same time. After receiving Holy Communion for the first time as Orthodox Christians, the girls then held the communion cloth while the community came forward to receive the life-giving sacrament.

The Kuma (Sponsor) for Maya was Mrs Mila Zadrozny; Madegan’s Kuma was Mrs Susan Dolan.

Our community extends Many Years to Madegan and Maya, and to their entire family.

We wish them peace and joy in the Orthodox Church. May our parish reflect the image of Christ to Maya and Madegan Morrison.
