Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

A number of children from Holy Trinity attended a week-long youth rally sponsored by the Orthodox Church in America, Diocese of New England.  The rally was held August 5-10 at the scenic and serene Saint Methodios Faith and Heritage Center in Contoocook, New Hampshire.

The children enjoyed a busy week of fellowship, worship and bonding with other children from across the Northeast.  The children enjoyed many typical camping activities such as hiking and swimming.  Sports activities included basketball and soccer.  They also participated in daily worship cycle - morning Matins, evening Vespers and Compline before bedtime as well as choir practice.

The biggest excitement came on Thursday when they all attended nearby Canobie Lake Amusement Park where the children enjoyed a day of games and exciting rides.  Fortunately rain held off the entire week until Friday which forced the campers indoors.  However spirits couldn't be dampened and the resilient staff found a way to cook s'mores indoors!

The rally was blessed with the presence of his Grace Bishop Benjamin for the entire week.  On Saturday morning, the entire camp gathered one last time, for a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy presided over by His Grace, Bishop Benjamin.  It was a memorable and moving way to conclude an exciting and fulfilling week for the campers.

Parents of the Holy Trinity children would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers who kept them safe and protected.  In particular the efforts of Father Moses Locke, Director of Youth Programs and Father Patrick Burns for their leadership and dedication to the youth of the Diocese.
