For the past 70 years, starting with +George Zlotnick, and now more recently with Greg and his son Peter, regardless of weather conditions, on each and every Memorial Day, our nation’s flag at our church cemetery is placed and raised to half-staff at dawn, then raised to full-staff by a Military Honor Guard at Noon and then lowered and taken down at dusk.
On Monday May 27, 2024, Peter arrived at the cemetery at daybreak to place and lower the flag to half-staff and then returned at dusk to raise, remove, and fold the flag. What a beautiful and inspiring Memorial Day tradition for our parish to uphold while also speaking to the deep respect the Zlotnick Family continues to have for the men and women who have served and continue to serve in our country’s Armed Forces. May God repay.
