The Holy Trinity community observed Saint Nicholas Day on Sunday, December 13, 2002, a week later than planned for, but one that was worth the wait. Last Sunday's inclement and icy conditions forced the postponement of our annual event for one week. With temperatures in the low 60's, with dry conditions today, we could not have asked for more. 

The Divine Liturgy was sung beautifully under the direction of Jon & Merci Matcheson. At the conclusion of Liturgy, Mr Bruce E. Maxwell, who was received into the Orthodox Church in mid-October, 2020, presented a reading from a booklet he recently composed specifically for this observance: The Seraphim Bell Strikes Eleven; A Tale of Saint Nicholas, that was read to those in attendance by Mr Maxwell, and assisted by loyal parish members, Katrina Fetzko and Vera Shelley. The children in attendance were captivated by this warmly written tale by Mr Maxwell who produced copies for every child and family from Holy Trinity to keep for posterity.

Afterwards, the HTOC Community progressed outside where two coronavirus pinatas were hung for our children and youth to swing away at. As the candy and money poured from the pinatas, the children shrieked with joy. Given the circumstances and limitations all houses of worship have endured since mid-March, this was indeed a special moment.  Holy Trinity pastor, V. Rev. Marc Vranes, spoke to the children briefly about keeping a remembrance of all those who have died due to this pernicious virus in their hearts.

"This was somewhat healing today," Father Marc said. "Our church's children have been extraordinarily faithful to our community during this time of separation. They attend weekly, and either serve in the altar, or are part of the Saint Olympia Handmaiden Ministry. A total of seven children served today; it was just such a beautiful day, one filled with expectation and much emotion."

A special thanks to Jon & Merci who prepared hot cocoa and sugar cookies for all to enjoy, to Katrina who baked and distributed Christmas cookies, to Barbara E. Lacey who made a tray of muffins, and to our church photographer, Mr Timothy Fetzko, who has supplied hundreds and hundreds of photos over the past nearly ten years for all to enjoy. Thank you, Tim.
