Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

The Holy Trinity community held its annual Welcome Back College Student Sunday on September 7, 2014. Holy Trinity has been hosting this welcome back for its Orthodox students who attend the University of Connecticut. The students are asked to come forward and update our church community on their summer experiences and plans for the upcoming academic year.

Each students receives a bag which has been filled with food and school supplies supplied by members of Holy Trinity. This was approximately the 10th consecutive year we have been able to welcome back the college students into our community. Thank you to Susan Dolan who annually coordinates this event for HTOC.

UCONN students who were with us today included juniors John Lardas and Sarah Luft, sophomores Melanie Sulich and Peter Hopko, and freshmen Peter Poproski and Holy Trinity's own Patrick Dolan.

"It is always uplifting for our entire community to see the students once again," Holy Trinity pastor, Fr Marc Vranes, said. "To see the students so engaged and interested in participating in a local community is inspiring. They are deeply committed and devoted to the Orthodox Church, and Holy Trinity in particular. They remain a joy and blessing to each of us."
