Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

Very Revered John Bacon, long-time pastor at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, Chelsea, MA, visited Holy Trinity on Sunday, June 9, 2013, and served Divine Liturgy on the Sixth Sunday of Pascha along with host pastor V. Rev. Marc Vranes.
Fr. John is the Outreach Coordinator for the Eastern Orthodox Commission on Scouting, and Scout Chaplain for the Orthodox Church in America.  He and Reader Stephen Bradford are strong supporters of New England Orthodox youth who participate in Scouting.  Fr. John was delighted that so many Scouts and Scout leaders, representing both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were in attendance this day.

Fr. John met Mr. Patrick Dolan, 17, a faithful member of Holy Trinity, who is constructing a new outdoor sign for the front of the church.  Patrick has undertaken the project as part of the requirements for earning the Eagle Scout Badge, which is Scouting's highest honor.  This pleased Fr. John greatly, as he himself is an Eagle Scout.
Patrick will begin construction of the sign in the next few weeks, and hopes to have it completed by the end of August. If all goes according to plan, the sign will be blessed when His Eminence, Archbishop NIKON, visits Holy Trinity for his annual Archpastoral visit on October 20, 2013.  (Donations to help off-set costs associated with the church sign are now being accepted through the Holy Trinity PayPal account found on the "Support Us" webpage).

Thank you for visiting us, Fr. John, and making a special day, even more special!
