Saint Mary of Magdala

Saint Mary of Magdela is far more than just one of the Myrrhbearing Women the church remembers on the Third Sunday of Pascha; her life is of such great magnitude that it is referred to as the Primacy of Mary. That Mary of Magdala is venerated in the Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, several Protestant churches, and even in the Baha’i Faith tradition, speaks of her prominence.

The Holy Trinity community bid farewell this morning (December 9, 2012) to Chris Adams. Chris will be earning his MSc degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Connecticut in a few weeks. He had previously earned his undergraduate degree from UConn in May, 2011.

Chris has been extremely faithful to Holy Trinity since his arrival on the Storrs campus in September, 2007. He was in church nearly every Sunday when school was in session. Even when he stayed on campus during the summer months, Chris would attend Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity. He was a true Christian presence in our midst. He also served as a strong leader for the local UConn chapter of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship during his 5 1/2 years on campus. His contribution to the OCF was significant. Chris was always ready to speak to other students about his faith and love for God.

Chris was supported this morning by his fellow UConn OCF students, including Eddie Ryan, Tashie Leva, Sol Yniguez, Sarah Luft, and John Lardis.

At the conclusion of Divine Liturgy, Chris spoke to the community one final time. He expressed his deep appreciation to the entire community for the way he was accepted during his college years. He pointed to his own spiritual development and maturity, and felt the Holy Trinity community had a large role in contributing to this growth. Chris was presented with a traveling portfolio diptych icon of our Lord and the Mother of God. The portfolio contained a prayer book as well.

Chris has accepted a position as a Human Capital Analyst for Deloitte Consulting LLP in downtown Hartford. He will begin working for Deloitte in early February. Over the next month or so, he will return to his home in Huntington, CT, for some well deserved rest and relaxation. When he begins his work duties at Deloitte, Chris' responsibilities will include working on different projects provided by Deloitte's clients. He will be analyzing the data the clients provide and help to create solutions for the clients' needs. Chris is very strong in math, having previously tutored in math and statistics.

Prior to beginning his new career, Chris will be one of four UConn students who will be attending the East Coast OCF College Conference at Antiochian Village in Ligonier, PA. There will be over 250 Orthodox college students at the College Conference. Chris will certainly be in his element.

Chris will be greatly missed at Holy Trinity. We wish Chris all God's blessings; he is well deserving. Thank you & Many Years.

-Fr Marc Vranes
