Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church presented the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry (WAIM) with a check for $500 in support of its Energy Assistance Program, often the final stop for those from Windham County who are in need of energy assistance during the cold winter months. The check was presented by WAIM's Holy Trinity delegate Dorothy (Dot) Sinchuk, who along with her husband, Nick, have been the catalyst in joining Holy Trinity to WAIM's good works the past several years.

The donation was presented from Dot to WAIM Executive Director Victoria Nimiroski prior to Sunday's (November 18) Walk for Warmth. The $500 represents nearly 25% of the total proceeds from Holy Trinity's Harvest Fall Festival held October 20. When the idea of a Fall Festival was presented at the 2012 Annual Meeting in January, it was decided by everyone that the first fruits of our festival would be earmarked to assist those in need. It was never intended that all the profits would be ours to keep. This is consistent with Holy Trinity's vision (Vision 2012): Mission, Mercy, Ministry.

The remaining festival proceeds will be used by Holy Trinity to purchase new tables and chairs to replace the existing tables and chairs which are over 60 years old, and have certainly outlived their usefulness.

The Fall Festival was coordinated by Denise & Jason Geeza, and assisted by our entire community. Our parish hopes to make the festival an annual event ... and the first fruits will always be to help those in need.
