Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

The Holy Trinity Church community paid tribute today (March 11, 2018) to the Zlotnick Family for their 60 years of maintenance and building at our church. In attendance was Mr George Zlotnick who began Zlotnick Construction Incorporated in 1949. He has been followed in the business by his son, Greg, and two sons, Peter & Gregory. Another son, Michael, lives out of state. A Lenten luncheon was held in their honor after Divine Liturgy.

"George and Greg have had a hand in every bit of maintenance and construction that has gone on at Holy Trinity for six decades now," Holy Trinity pastor, Very Rev. Marc A. Vranes, said. "Their benevolence and humility has been the hallmark of their dedicated service at Holy Trinity. We have always been a small church, one that has struggled at times since it was established in 1916. It is unimaginable to comprehend where our church might be without the Zlotnick Family's extreme devotion, dedication, and hard work.

"The Zlotnick Family's contributions are numerous, including assisting with building the church which was consecrated in 1957, building the adjacent rectory in 1966, then later installing a new kitchen, restored and gilded the cuploa, installed the iconostasis with new icons in 2008, purchased a first-class audio sound system, purchased and installed central air conditioning, and just a few months ago (December, 2017) paid for an entire new church roof, along with supplying all the labor.

Greg told a story how in 1985 his father purchased a saw at a swap meet in Florida for $2.00. He used it to cut out the letters, both in English and Slavonic, which spells out "In the fear of God and with faith and love draw near." The archway is above the Royal Doors at Holy Trinity, and was a detailed labor of love by George 33 years ago. The day also gave the members from Holy Trinity to offer Happy Birthday greetings to George who turned 94 years old on March 9.

Memory Eternal was intoned for +Kimberly Zlotnick, Greg's wife, who reposed far too early at age 34 in 1994, and for +Zenia Zlotnick, George's wife who fell asleep in the Lord in July, 2017.
