St. Mary of Egypt

In last Sunday’s Gospel (Mark 9:17-31), the disciples were disappointed because they could not cast out a demon from a young man, but Christ did. His disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” The Lord responds, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.

Kneeling Prayers of Holy Pentecost

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, we will pray the Kneeling Vespers of Pentecost.

Before each Kneeling Prayer, the priest will say, "On bended knee let us pray to the Lord." What will we be asking from God in these three prayers?

Prayer #1: We ask God to 1) hear us, 2) accept us, 3) forget our sins, 4) purge our sinful thoughts, 4) entrust us to guardian angel, 5) grant us forgiveness; and 6) cleanse us by the Holy Spirit.

Prayer #2: We ask God to teach us how to pray, and what to pray for.

Prayer #3: For our departed loved ones,in which we ask God to: 1) give rest to their souls, 2) place their names in the Book of Life, and 3) forgive their sins.
