Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

Barbara Lacey, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of St Joseph, West Hartford, CT, offered a presentation on the life of Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Japan, on Sunday, February 16, at the conclusion of Divine Liturgy. Saint Nicholas carries the title ‘Equal-to-the-Apostles’. Barbara's presentation revealed just what the title means, along with so much additional information on St Nicholas of Japan, the first saint of the Japanese Orthodox Church. Her presentation was very informative, and as always, well researched and delivered.

Over the years, Barbara has made many presentations on the lives of Orthodox Saints in conjunction with Holy Trinity's Adult Education Series .

"Having lay persons research and present the life of an Orthodox Saint, has been extremely valuable", Fr Marc Vranes pointed out. "In nearly every case, the majority of parishioners who are at Divine Liturgy, stays to hear the presentations. There is always well thought questions from those in attendance. We continue to learn that sanctification (holiness) is a flowering of the Holy Spirit in action.

"The Adult Education Series also serves the nourish the souls of our own parish. It also fulfills one of our missions, to provide opportunities to come to a fuller understanding of the Orthodox faith to those in our own community."

Holy Trinity also maintains a Lending Library with books on Orthodoxy. Anyone is welcome to visit our library and take out a book. Please contact Fr Marc to browse through our library.
