A Priest's Perspective

Holy Trinity Rector, Very Reverend Marc A. Vranes, returned to Holy Trinity on Sunday, October 22, 2017. He had been absent the previous two weeks, home and rehabilitating, as a result of total right knee replacement surgery. Many thoughts go through one’s mind during this post-surgical time. Following are some thoughts shared by Fr Marc to his church community upon his return.

Saint Nicholas made his annual visit to Holy Trinity after Divine Liturgy on Sunday, December 7, 2014, in order to celebrate his Feast Day. To say he was well received by our church’s young children would be an understatement.

Nearly all our children are under age 6, so there was plenty of excitement in the air when Saint Nicholas appeared. The children all gathered around him while he told stories of his life, and the way good deeds should be performed, without fanfare or expecting to receive anything in return. Saint Nicholas it must be pointed out, is the patron saint of children, and of sea-farers as well.

Prior to meeting with the children, who all sat at rapt attention, Saint Nicholas filled their shoes with candy and other treats. Before he left them for another year, he passed out gifts to each of the seven children who were in attendance. He promised to return to Holy Trinity again next year, too.

A special thanks to Natalie Geeza for her efforts in making the day so special, and to University of Connecticut junior John Lardas for his contribution.
