St. Mary of Egypt

In last Sunday’s Gospel (Mark 9:17-31), the disciples were disappointed because they could not cast out a demon from a young man, but Christ did. His disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” The Lord responds, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.

Members & Friends of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church,

The rhythm of life, as live out through the spirit and worship of the church, is ultimately directed towards the end times, towards perfection and union with Jesus Christ in the eternal Kingdom. Through His resurrection from the dead, once and forever, we are reminded once again that life goes beyond the grave.

Life in its present fallen and distorted form, has no meaning without resurrection, where all those are united with Christ. Through His death on the cross, his resurrection from the tomb, creation is saved, and as such, becomes the means of encounter and life in Christ. Death and darkness are no longer cease to exist, instead, replaced by victory and life eternal. All this takes place in the church, the source of every joy, of every cleansing, of the healing of soul and body, the source of all power, which is culminated by our participation in the Holy Eucharist, the Sacrament of the Kingdom.

That we are afforded the possibility to unite with Christ, and experience this resurrectional joy, is a love which casts out fear and crushes every doubt and distrust; it is a love which destroys every evil and burns every sin.

Yet, being receivers of the saving message of His resurrection, brings with it a sense of personal accountability that we will be called to answer for on the Day of Judgment. If Christ is to be known to others, we must be the ones who convey this message though our own evangelical and missionary efforts. To believe in Christ is simply not enough.

On behalf of everyone at Holy Trinity, we wish all our friends and family Paschal joy with all its beauty and brightness.

Christ is Risen! Indeed, He is Risen!

- Fr Marc
